Here's What a Session Is Really Like...

What is Reiki?

As an ancient Japanese practice for relaxation and stress relief, Reiki is gaining popularity for its healing effects. Reiki works through light hand placements to facilitate the flow of life force energy known as "ki".

Medical professionals, including many doctors, nurses, caregivers, and even major hospitals and medical centers in the U.S. offer Reiki as a complementary treatment for many conditions.

Getting Comfortable

Comfort is key - you'll remain fully clothed on a massage table or seated comfortably. Reiki is done through light hand placements rather than massage, so no need to undress. This allows you to fully relax without worry.

If you’re not comfortable lying on your back, just let your practitioner know. Reiki can be done in any position, including seated in a comfortable chair, or on a massage chair!

Preparing for Your Session

Your practitioner will explain Reiki and ask about any areas of pain or tension to focus on. The beauty of Reiki is that it works on all levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual/energic. Supporting you in ways that you may not realize yet are needed.

Usually, quiet, relaxing music is played in the background. Communication is important so your practitioner can tailor the session to your needs.

The Hand Placement Process

Then the light touches or hovering hands will begin. Your Reiki practitioner will place their hands a few inches from or lightly on your body - no pressure is applied. Hand positions may include the crown of the head, forehead, eyes, cheeks, mouth, and so on down the front and back torso. Each lasts a few minutes to allow the universal life energy known as "ki" to flow.

What to Expect During Your Session

You'll likely feel sensations like warmth, tingling, or waves of relaxation. Some experience visions or emotions rising to the surface as well. But there's no need to analyze - just observe and let the experience unfold naturally.

After Your Session

A traditional session typically lasts 60 to 70 minutes. Towards the end, you'll receive Reiki on your feet before resting in stillness. Most feel deeply relaxed yet energized after. Take time to the ground before leaving when you feel ready.

Potential Benefits

Don't be surprised if you experience benefits like stress relief, better sleep, or pain reduction even after just one treatment. Be sure to drink water and rest afterward to fully integrate the effects.
