Join me on a journey to overcome self-sabotage, embrace balance, and reclaim your power through actionable strategies for holistic wellbeing.
Let’s talk about something that can feel like an invisible weight holding us back: self-sabotage. You know, that nagging feeling that keeps us from reaching our goals and living our best lives?
It’s like this habit energy that hangs out in our bodies and minds, often triggered by past experiences and those pesky limiting beliefs. This energy can really become a barrier to our growth, leaving us feeling stuck and frustrated.
But here’s the good news: the path to overcoming self-sabotage lies in finding balance across all areas of our health—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic.
So, what exactly is self-sabotage? At its core, it’s a pattern of behaviors that mess with our ability to succeed or feel fulfilled. It often comes from unresolved emotions, negative beliefs, or even trauma from our past. Recognizing these inner triggers is the first step toward breaking free from their grip.
Self-sabotage can show up in all sorts of ways: procrastination, negative self-talk, unhealthy coping mechanisms, or even that relentless pursuit of perfection. Each of these behaviors is like a protective shield, often rooted in fear or insecurity. For example, if you’ve faced failure in the past, you might find yourself avoiding risks to shield yourself from potential disappointment. It’s a frustrating cycle that creates a loop of inaction, keeping you from chasing your goals.
Understanding that self-sabotage is essentially a form of habit energy is key. It’s energy that’s been stored in your body and mind, often popping up as emotional reactions that can derail your progress. The silver lining? This energy can be transformed! By addressing the root causes of self-sabotage and learning to navigate your triggers, you can start to shift your patterns and reclaim your power.
Now, let’s dive into balance. It’s the secret sauce for overcoming self-sabotage. By incorporating small, actionable steps into our daily routines, we can create a sense of equilibrium in our lives. This balance helps us address the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being, leading to a more harmonious existence.
But what does balance really mean? It’s not about achieving perfection or doing everything “right.” Instead, it’s about finding a rhythm that works for you—one that honors your unique needs and circumstances. This could look like balancing work and rest, action and reflection, or even discipline and spontaneity.
In my own journey, I’ve found several practices that have significantly helped me. One game-changer was reading The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. I used to be a reluctant morning person, but I discovered that I was way more productive and focused when I woke up early. Following the principles in the book, I started implementing a morning routine that changed my life—not just in the mornings, but throughout the entire day.
At first, I followed The Miracle Morning to the letter, and let me tell you, the results were amazing! The book outlines a series of practices—silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading, and journaling—collectively known as the “SAVERS.” These practices are designed to help you kick off your day with intention and purpose.
As I embraced this routine, my mornings became this sacred time for self-care and reflection. I felt more centered, focused, and ready to take on whatever the day threw at me. But over time, I started to adapt the routine to better fit my lifestyle and needs. That’s when I stumbled upon the concept of sadhana in yoga—a dedicated practice that fosters spiritual growth and self-discipline.
The beauty of sadhana is that it encourages you to establish a consistent practice that resonates with your individual journey. It’s all about cultivating a relationship with yourself and honoring your own rhythms. Now, my morning routine is a blend of both The Miracle Morning and my sadhana practice, tailored to where I am right now.
However, I’ve noticed that when I skip my self-care practices before diving into the day, the difference is palpable. My energy feels scattered, and I struggle to focus. This realization has reinforced how important it is to prioritize my morning routine as a non-negotiable part of my day.
Today marks the second full day of spring 2025, and I’m diving into a revamped version of my morning practice. After a few months of battling self-sabotage, I feel a strong urge to reconnect with my inner strength and balance. Spring symbolizes renewal and growth—what better time to tap back into my resilience?
As I reflect on my journey, I realize that what worked for me in the past might not be what I need right now. So, I’m asking myself: What will work for me today? My self-care routine needs to be a harmonious mix of physical movement, nourishment, mindfulness, and mindset.
To kickstart this journey, I’m planning my mornings the night before. This includes setting my alarm and using Mel Robbins' 5-Second Rule to get out of bed. It’s a simple yet effective technique that encourages you to count down from five and take action before your mind has a chance to talk you out of it. Once I’m up, I’ll brew my tea and settle onto my yoga mat. From there, I’ll follow my energy in the moment, but I do have a few non-negotiables.
I’m committing to this practice for the next 40 days as a promise to myself. It’s about being loyal to my own needs and desires, creating a solid foundation from which I can thrive. I truly believe that this commitment will help me overcome self-sabotage and cultivate the balance I’m seeking.
As I embark on this journey, I want to share some strategies that can help you find balance in your own life. These small, actionable steps can easily fit into your daily routine, allowing you to create harmony across all dimensions of your being.
Establish a Morning Routine (or Afternoon, or Evening): Just like I’ve found value in my morning practices, think about creating a routine that sets a positive tone for your day. This could include meditation, exercise, journaling, or any activity that resonates with you. The key is consistency—aim to engage in your routine daily to cultivate stability.
Practice Mindfulness: Incorporating mindfulness into your daily life can help you stay present and aware of your thoughts and emotions. This practice can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths throughout the day or engaging in a short meditation. Mindfulness lets you observe your triggers and reactions without judgment, creating space for conscious choices.
Set Intentions: Each day, take a moment to set intentions for what you want to achieve. This can help you stay focused and aligned with your goals. Write down your intentions and revisit them throughout the day to remind yourself of your purpose.
Create a Balanced Schedule: Pay attention to how you allocate your time and energy. Strive for a balance between work, rest, and play. Make sure you’re carving out time for self-care and activities that bring you joy.
Nourish Your Body: A balanced diet is essential for maintaining your energy and overall wellbeing. Focus on nourishing your body with wholesome foods that support your health. Experiment with different meal preparations and find what works best for you. And don’t forget hydration—make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day!
Engage in Physical Movement: Regular physical activity is crucial for both mental and emotional wellbeing. Find an exercise routine that you enjoy, whether it’s yoga, dancing, walking, or strength training. Movement not only helps to release stored energy but also boosts your mood and enhances your overall health.
Cultivate a Supportive Environment: Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you. Having a supportive community can make a significant difference in your journey toward balance. Share your goals with friends or family, or consider joining a group that aligns with your interests.
Reflect and Journal: Take time to reflect on your experiences and emotions. Journaling can be a powerful tool for processing your thoughts and feelings. Use your journal to track your progress, identify patterns of self-sabotage, and explore your challenges. This practice can help you gain clarity and insight into your journey.
Embrace Flexibility: Life is unpredictable, and it’s essential to remain flexible in your approach. If something doesn’t work for you, don’t hesitate to adapt and try new strategies. Balance is about finding what resonates with you in the moment and being open to change.
Seek Support: Sometimes, we all need a little help getting in touch with where we are. If you’re feeling stuck, consider scheduling an empowered wellness consultation with me. Together, we can explore your unique needs and create a personalized plan for success.
As I embark on this journey of balance and renewal, I’ll be using a journal to help me track my progress and stay accountable. I have one that is designed to support you in setting and achieving your goals over a 30-day period. It encourages you to reflect on your daily habits, celebrate your successes, and identify areas for improvement.
A journal and a planner; it’s a tool for self-discovery and personal growth. By documenting your journey, you can gain insight into your patterns of behavior and learn to recognize when self-sabotage is creeping in. If you’re interested in checking it out, you can find it here. Stay tuned, I'll be posting more about the journal I use in future posts. If you want a tracker to help you get started, message me, and I'll send you one.
