Discover how to get back to basics this December. Embrace self-reflection, creativity, and mindfulness to reclaim your wellness and joy!
As we approach December, I find myself reflecting on the past few months and the themes that have guided my journey: balance, grounding, and gratitude. Each month has brought its own challenges and lessons, shaping my path as a holistic wellness, mindfulness, and mindset coach. This Thanksgiving, I’m reminded of the importance of meeting ourselves where we are and embracing our experiences without judgment.
September was a month of high energy for me. I felt in sync with my responsibilities as a high school counselor, a busy family member, and a budding coach. Balancing these roles energized me, and I thrived on the harmony that came with it. However, as the seasons shifted, so did my energy and focus.
By October, I found myself needing to slow down and ground myself amidst the whirlwind of life. With personal challenges, the loss of our beloved dog, and bouts of illness, I realized that grounding was essential. It took all my energy just to stay present, but I learned to appreciate the stillness and the lessons that came with it. Grounding became my anchor, allowing me to reconnect with myself and the world around me.
As November unfolded, I turned my focus to gratitude. I embraced gratitude practices to help alleviate stress and elevate my energy. By consciously shifting my perspective to one of appreciation, I began to replace the heavier emotions with love, joy, and hope. This practice not only nourished my spirit but also reminded me of the beauty in the simple moments of life.
Now, as we enter December, I’m excited to announce my theme for the month: getting back to basics. This theme resonates deeply with me, especially as I navigate the complexities of life. I’ve been revisiting some patterns in my life with a new perspective. I realize that I need to identify who and what supports me, as well as what sabotages me. It’s time to be honest with myself and others, to take things at face value, and to move beyond denial. Transparency is key, even with myself.
I’ve come to understand that it’s okay to try new things and to change my mind. How can I be creative with my basics? Yes, they work, but how can I make them fresh and new, incorporating more of who I am? This month, I plan to embrace creativity in every aspect of my life, from trying out new recipes to decorating for the holidays in a way that feels uniquely me.
Movement truly is medicine. I will commit to short, intentional movement sessions each day—be it a few minutes of yoga, a brisk walk, or even dancing in my living room. These moments will help me release stagnant energy and reconnect with my body.
I’ll set aside time for mindfulness each day, whether through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply being present in the moment. These practices will help me cultivate awareness and clarity, allowing me to navigate my responsibilities with grace.
Nutrition plays a vital role in how we feel. I will focus on nourishing my body with wholesome foods that fuel my energy and support my overall well-being. This month, I’m excited to try new recipes that not only delight my taste buds but also bring joy to my family during our holiday gatherings.
Engaging in creative activities is a powerful way to uplift our spirits. I plan to dedicate time to decorating for the holidays, creating a warm and inviting space for family and friends. Whether it’s crafting handmade ornaments or setting the table with care, infusing creativity into our celebrations can transform the season into a joyful experience rather than a source of stress.
Continuing my gratitude practice, I’ll dedicate a few minutes each day to reflect on what I’m thankful for. This simple act will help me maintain a positive mindset and keep the energy of gratitude flowing.
As we approach the holiday season, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by obligations and extra responsibilities. This December, I encourage you to use the holidays as an opportunity to get back to basics. Let’s make intentional choices that prioritize connection over obligation, creativity over stress, and joy over perfection. By focusing on what truly matters—spending quality time with loved ones and creating meaningful traditions—we can transform our experiences into moments of joy and gratitude.
As I embark on this month of getting back to basics, I remind myself of the importance of self-compassion. It's easy to fall into the trap of judgment, thinking about what we "should" be doing. However, I’ve learned that it’s vital to honor where we are in our journey. Life is not always about the ideal; it’s about embracing the reality of our experiences.
When you know it’s time to take action, trust that intuition. Start small, and remember that even the tiniest steps can lead to significant shifts in energy and mindset. I’ve found that setting a timer for important tasks, even when I feel tired, can create space for creativity and self-care. Adaptability is key—being grounded in all aspects of life, whether it’s work, home, relationships, or self-care.
I invite you to join me on this journey of getting back to basics. Let’s embrace our unique paths, celebrate our progress, and support each other in finding joy and energy in the everyday moments. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positivity and transformation in our lives and communities.
